The Brazilians started their pre-season journey with a 1-1 draw against German second tier side Hertha Berlin on Wednesday evening, with new signing Antonio van Wyk finding the back of the net.
Al Hilal, meanwhile, went for a strong line-up as Karim Benzema, Malcom and Sergej Milinković-Savić were included in the starting line-up in their second pre-season friendly.
Benzema’s future at the club remains uncertain, with reports in Europe claiming he wants clarity on his role in the team ahead of the Saudi Pro League season amid reports the club are only planning to register him for the AFC Champions League.
It was the Saudi side who broke the deadlock after just nine minutes, with Brazilian winger Malcom finding the back of the net with a close-range finish.
Simone Inzaghi’s charges were able to hold off the Brazilians for most of the first half as they went into the halftime break with the slender lead.
The Saudi Arabian giants went on to grab a second goal just after the hour mark as Malcom helped himself to another goal despite the Brazilians putting up a good fight in the second period by seeing a lot of the ball.
There would be no way back into the contest for Miguel Cardoso’s charges, who have now registered their first loss in pre-season just days after securing a draw against German opposition.
